“You brought two too many” – “Once Upon A Time In The West” is Sergio Leone’s operatic masterpiece about the death of the old west, and the death of the western.
This is a love letter to the classic western tropes, from script (loosely based on “Johnny Guitar”) to casting (what a cast), locations and production design (the hero wears white, the villain wears black, and everything is, even down to tablecloths, a reference to other classic movies).
In true Leone style it’s slow paced to build tension, but it’s fantastic, timeless, and hugely influential.
