“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” “Jaws” is not a film about a shark, it’s a metaphor for our fears. “The Right Stuff” was men being insanely brave. This is about a man who has to overcome his fears. He does so with brains and brawn on each shoulder – Hooper and Quint. I love structure – two acts – first on land, second at sea. It’s brilliant. I always thought “Keep the beaches open” was a bit unbelievable, but it’s hilariously prescient today.
