The Unbelievable Truth

“Are you a priest?” Something different again today. I love quirky, low-budget indie films too. And nobody does quirky better than Hal Hartley. I wanted to post “Trust” because it’s a masterpiece, but I couldn’t find it to stream. You must check it out if you can.

His offbeat debut, “The Unbelievable Truth” is on Amazon. A newly released convict (Robert Burke) returns to town and attracts the attention of a young woman (Adrienne Shelly) who is smart but lost, and resigned to an impending nuclear apocalypse. Production values aren’t high and some of the actors aren’t the best, but the writing and directing is darkly funny, weird and inventive.

It was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and it has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
