“In a few years people are going to be doing what they always do when the economy tanks. Blaming immigrants and poor people.” This is a MUST see. The first 21st century film on my list and, honestly, my film of this century so far – the multi-award winning “The Big Short”, about the financial crash of 2008.
Now, that may sound boring but it’s actually a lot of fun, full of energy, but also dark and important. And Brad Pitt is man enough to wear a f**king mask.
It was co-written and directed by Adam McKay, who’s mostly a comedy director, and he knocks it out of the park. It explains how the world economy collapsed, often in short cameos – Margot Robbie talks about sub-prime mortgages in a bubble bath for God’s sake!
It’s filmed with beautiful long lenses, the editing is amazing (parts are like music videos), and everyone in it is just fantastic. It’s a work of genius on many levels.
