Rush

“Watching you win those races, while I was fighting for my life, you were equally responsible for getting me back in the car.” Sticking with my love of true stories, today’s 21st century movie is “Rush”. I really, really don’t have any interest in motor racing. But this film is brilliant. You don’t have to like racing. It’s about the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, two completely different characters, and that’s what makes it riveting.

It’s written by Peter Morgan, who specialises in true life dramas such as “The Queen”, “Frost/Nixon” and “The Damned United” (all of which are excellent movies you should watch). Chris Hemsworth is great as Hunt, but Daniel Bruhl is just fantastic as Lauda. Hans Zimmer’s score is one of his best and the racing sequences are incredibly visceral – the editing is jaw-dropping. I think this is Ron Howard’s best film since his other true story, “Apollo 13”.
