“If it’s just us, it seems like an awful waste of space.”. Another beautiful, intelligent sci-fi movie, one grounded in as much reality as is possible.
It’s based on a book by the great Carl Sagan. “Contact” is a serious look at what it might be like if we ever made, yes, contact with an alien species.
Different characters represent science, religion, politics, hope, scepticism and fear. Jodie Foster is wonderful as the girl who became a scientist and never stopped dreaming. Matthew McConaughey is excellent as a man of God who alternates between the angel and the devil on her shoulder.
The supporting cast are also fantastic. It looks amazing, Robert Zemeckis does a great job directing and the score by Alan Silvestri is beautiful.
