Belle

Something a bit different again, a period drama, but a relevant one. I’ve said before that I love true stories. I live near Hampstead Heath and Kenwood House, which was owned by the Murray family (unfortunately I’m not in their Will). I’ve visited many times. There’s an amazing art collection and a lovely café now.

“Belle” is the true story of an illegitimate mixed-race woman who was raised there. She had a profound effect on her great uncle, William Murray, Lord Chief Justice of England. So much so that he contributed to the abolition of the UK’s slave trade. Murrays are definitely cool!

The production is beautiful, every frame is like a painting. And the writing, directing and acting by all involved is wonderful and very moving.
