The Big Heat

“Somebody’s going to pay”. “The Big Heat” was directed by Fritz Lang, the “Master of Darkness”, who made extraordinary films in Germany, most famously “Metropolis” and “M”, before leaving Nazi Germany for the US. No wonder it’s one of the most incredibly brutal film noirs of all time.

A cop investigates the suicide of a police chief and events lead him to go rogue. Glenn Ford is fantastic, and Gloria Grahame and Lee Marvin are also amazing. Their scene involving coffee is part of cinema history. And it’s all in beautiful black and white. I love it.
